[Malaysia Cadet Pilot Preparation Guide]
Wonder what to prepare before entering cadetship programme? Here are things that YOU should know especially for SPM leavers. And also I added FAQ for those who were asking.
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATION?
-Airline will require you a minimum of atleast A in English,Maths and B for Physics/Science. Science, account, arts stream is allowed to participate provided that you meet the requirements. Please repeat your papers if you dont pass the minimum requirement set by the airline as some airline will prioritize your SPM qualification in their selection process.
WHAT CAN I PREPARE BEFORE THE CADETSHIP STAGES?
-Focus on practicing maths, english and physics SPM for Paper 1 as it is MCQ based from past year questions. Definitely must buy SPM past year question bank.(source: https://trial.spmpaper.me)
-For Maths can practice algebra, simultaneous equation, rate of change,IQ test
-Practice your english. When I say practice, means try to converse english with your buddies. You dont need to be a genius to be a pilot, just practice on learning how to converse and deliver your message well so that other people understand you.
-Do personality test online to understand your strength and weakness of your own, and identify traits of a pilot. Self-awareness is very important as some airline will ask you to conduct a simple personality test to find the right kind of candidate suitable to become pilot.(source:https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test)
-Practice airline technical interview. Very crucial to have good understanding of aircraft fleets, company background, physics of aircraft before sitting for an interview. Questions can be found here (https://pilotvisnu.com/airasia-cadet-pilot-interview/)
-Read other successful candidate's experience through the stages and note some important keypoints that led to their success. (https://yusryhazriq.wordpress.com/2017/03/28/airasia-cadet-pilot-interview/)
-Try to get your resume ready and learn how to make an effective resume that might attract the panelist attention in interview session
-Psychomotor and simulator rental session
OR
Practice yourself by buying simulator and joystick that can be get from shopee. Make sure that your computer is compatible before moving on with the purchase.
(Joystick for psychomotor: https://shopee.com.my/Logitech-Extreme-3D-Pro-Wired-Joystick-i.58359596.983243272?sp_atk=b7ca81e0-4ed0-4aa7-9ea5-dce019b85363&xptdk=b7ca81e0-4ed0-4aa7-9ea5-dce019b85363)
-Learn about some aircraft instruments and technicalities. Ive provided an aircraft engineering course notes that was uploaded by other people. Disclaimer; Use for your own personal use because it contains notes from Airlines themselves

DO THESE AIRLINE SPONSOR YOU?
No. They do not. You have to apply for a bank loan usually under Maybank or Affin Bank with 6-8% interest rate(depending on the arrangement of banks with airlines). The hard part is finding a guarantor in this process with strict age requirements. For MPL it would cost you 500k whilst CPL 400k-470k depending on airline. A deposit is required for the loan process to serve for your 2 years in flying school. After graduating, your salary will be deducted to pay off the bank. Another 250k-300k is required for type rating once u are in the airline. Some airlines will deduct your salary for type rating and some require u to self fund.
HOW MANY CADETS WILL BE QUALIFIED IN THE FINAL ROUND?
It depends on airlines. But as of 2017-2019 some airlines take around 100 cadets. For airlines as strict as Singapore Airlines they only take 13 cadets (if im not mistaken) to be qualify as their pilots. Please don't get your hopes too high as some airlines received huge amount of candidates per opening around 5k with a mixture of qualifications from SPM, Diploma and Degree competing with one another.
DO I NEED TO BE A GENIUS TO EXCEL AIRLINE CADETSHIP?
Not really. One candidate got 3A for SPM and managed to pass through all stages. Of course, this candidate also did "pass" the qualification required by the airline.
SHOULD I WAIT FOR CADETSHIP OR GO PRIVATE?
It depends on you. Cadetship will secure your job employment as a pilot while private means that you are alone and no bonds yet with airline. Later have to compete with direct first officer intake with other pilots same with you. Just expect atleast 2 years of unemployment before getting a job with an airline if u were to enroll private flying school because of high competition.

AHH! WHAT WOULD YOU ADVICE? THE AVIATION INDUSTRY IS NOT LOOKING GOOD
If you are not confident in pursuing piloting, go get your Diploma or Degree in other any field to serve as a backup for you. The benefits is that, you will have something to cover you if you studied piloting and end up unemployed for a long time.In addition to that, you will get an advantage later in interview since you are well equipped and prepared. Any field does not matter. But according to airline they prefer Engineering related discipline. Getting an engineering diploma/degree will come in handy later if u were to takeup for the airline assessment as physics will be one of the test that will be assessed and also beneficial for u in ground school.
